Artūrs Gailis
Artūrs GAILIS a founder and artistic director of B-Sharp. He has performed in Latvia, Estonia, Germany and Finland with various orchestras and ensembles including the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta Riga chamber orchestra, Latvian National Opera orchestra, Latvian Festival Orchestra, Philips Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Concertante chamber orchestra, Baltic Academies Orchestra, Vidzemes chamber orchestra, singers of Latvian Radio Choir and others. Soloists he has performed with include Mario Brunello, Ēriks Kiršfelds, Armands Siliņš, Irma Pavāre, Konstantīns Paturskis, Rihards Plešanovs, Ritvars Garoza and many others.
Artūrs Gailis frequently assisted the rehearsals of Paavo Järvi in 2015. In 2017 he was the assistant conductor in the production of Osvaldo Golijov’s opera “Ainadamar” which received the Grand Music Award in Latvia as Production of the Year. In 2019 Artūrs Gailis conducted World Premiere of “Tree Opera” in woods of Finland.
Besides classical repertoire, Artūrs is an experienced performer of contemporary music. He has conducted numerous pieces of his contemporaries and has premiered pieces by composers Anna Ķirse, Ritvars Garoza, Līva Blūma, Margarita Gapčenko and Aigars Raumanis. Artūrs Gailis is an enthusiastic supporter of appearances by young composers.
Coming from a family of musicians Artūrs Gailis began his musical career as a violist. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 2010 (Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music) and a master’s degree in 2012 (Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre). As a chamber musician, Artūrs is a laureate of numerous national and international competitions.
In 2019, he received a master’s degree in symphony orchestra conducting in Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music with professor Viesturs Gailis.
Currently teaching in Opera Singing Class of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.
